Vintage 2 handed scythe, superb shape. old,,,,1901
« on: June 07, 2012, 05:53:37 PM »
Is there any interest in an old farm tool,,,,a 2 handed scythe?
I found one at an "estate" sale here on a huge farm, that a very old man had,and said it was his grandfather's.
Look's like the grim reaper type!!
I is in super shape!!!!! It was a "living room ornament!!!
I have not looked it over much, still in the pick-up bed in the carport.
I believe I saw a 1901 date on it.
I will take photos of it, if anyone is interested.
It IS a hand TOOL, but not my normal type to look for.

We love pictures here.

From what I know about them there fairly common to find in barns if its the style ime thinking of. Unless its in like new condition it wont be worth a billion dollars. As far as collactibilty goes there still collectible as long as they look old ime sure some desighner would pay 100 bucks at a antique shop for it even thoe I have seen them at flea markets for 10. Either way its not a bad piece to have.
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

Grim Reaper eh?   I use these to keep the weeds down, about as much excercize as trying to start up a weed whacker.   2 in the shed, 3 in the shop, another in the barn?   Is faster than anything but a stock shredder, there is a youtube video of an Amish girl with a scythe, out cutting a guy with a big weed whacker.   Plus they are quiet, great for taking the kinks out of the back, shoulders, and neck.
