Red Devil 210

Strange jawed pliers marked Red Devil 210. Probably for glass work, but to do what? Jaws are 9/16" apart when opened to parallel. That would be some thick glass.

Glass pliers for sure.  They aren't for 9/16 inch glass, though.  Best for single strength and double strength glass.  It's not to fit thick glass, but to make a sharp angle between the tips of the jaws and the glass you are cutting.

I've got a couple of pairs.  They help in keeping your hands away from the glass when you snap it, and are really useful when you are trimming a narrow piece of glass to make a piece fit into a window or picture frame.  If your cut strays, they are indispensable for nibbling away the excess.

Thanks for the info. Does "pat. pend." mean they are pre 1928, or is this just in the forging until they get around to adding the pat. number.

"The expressions "patent pending" (sometimes abbreviated by "pat. pend". or "pat. pending") or "patent applied for" refer to a warning that inventors are entitled to use in reference to their product or process once a patent application has been filed, but prior to the patent being issued or the application abandoned. The marking serves to notify potential infringers who would copy the invention that they may be liable for damages (including back-dated royalties), seizure, and injunction once a patent is issued."

They are used to break glass along a score line. Branson hit it they are for single (1/16) and double (1/8) strength glass.
