W. T. Grant was founded in Lynn MA in 1909, by William T. Grant, who apparently got tired of buying underwear for Almey,Bigelo & Washburn. The stores original motto was "no article sold costing more than 25 cents."
By the depression he backed off a bit, trade papers describe the chain as "merchandise priced 5 cents to $1, mostly over 25 cents", but by then there were 25 stores, and the chain was incorporated....
Still, I expect the wrench wan't terrably expensive back then...;P
