Early Indestro Socket?
« on: March 11, 2012, 10:13:20 PM »
I have a socket (and square drive? x slotted screwdriver? attachment that was inside it) that I believe is an early Indestro socket.

Indestro No. 220 1/2-Hex Drive Socket Set documented on AA seems correct.  However, the socket I have is considered a "square drive", correct?

Hard to tell from the pic. Those sockets can be hex drive or square drive. Same with the sized end. They can be 4pt or 6pt.
Old tractors, old cars, new Harleys

Looking for HinsDale 4 points 1/2dr in a few sizes and a Bonney 12point 1/2" in 3/8dr.

If the bottom has a hex broach, its a hex drive, square socket. For square nutz 'n bolts and a hex drive ratchet or speeder or somesuch.

If the bottom is square too, its just a square socket :)

That was the drive end, the other end having a 15/16 hex (broach as you call it).  So I do have a 1/2 square drive socket just as I thought.

And this is a hex drive??? flipped over in the socket set pictured (completely unrelated socket to OP)?

I'm sure that screwdriver bit didn't belong in that socket, it goes in the ratchet as a screwdriver.

Thank you all for the help.  I had to make sure I was correct in this being a square drive, as all sockets I'm finding in that style are documented as hex drive.  I don't like assuming.

I'm learning  -  I won't have to ask that question again!

I take my statement back, the ratchet is female hex drive, so I guess the screwdriver does go in that socket.

The screwdriver goes with a female ratchet in a set that that socket probably also went with. The square drive sockets in this design are noted by AA, there just isn't a set shown.

This combination is a transition design, and not common...

Bob is also  right, because the screwdriver has 2 detent balls, it also serves as a ratchet-socket coupler.
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Yes you do.

Yes it is.
