Today's Find - This is a Motorcycle Wrench!
« on: March 09, 2012, 02:19:48 PM »
Found this Indian Motocycle wrench for $2 today at a flea market.  It has the U.S.A. stamp on it which, to this U.S. Army veteran, suggests it was owned by the U.S. Army.

That is in nice shape.  The USA that big it could be US Army,  never seen one of these with the stampings so clear.  How long is it?

Two bucks?!  In that condition?  Wow.  I'd say it was owned by the US Army, too, especially since the USA over-stamps the edge of the manufacturer's mark, right close to their U.S.A mark.

This Wakefield No. 17 Wrench is 7 inches long.

Branson, this wrench had a light and even coat of rust all over.  I offered the fellow a dollar for it, he looked at it and said, "It says Wakefield; that'll be $2".  I said, "OK".

Cleaning the wrench brought it up to its current state.

Light coat of rust all over...  What a challenge.   That's a nice piece.

Apparently, Hendee turned over its entire 1916-17 Indian Motocycle production to the U.S. Army. In 1920, the company changed its name to Indian Motorcycle Co.  This would suggest that the USA stamp on this wrench is a WW I era designation.

Jim:

All the Wakefield Indian wrenches of this type I've seen were stamped "USA".  Is yours also stamped "USA"?

Also, what kind of fish are you holding in your picture?

Bob,

Sorry I didn't answer your question before.  I loast track of this post.  The fish is an 8.0 lb large mouth Bass.  I'll have to check the wrench.

That's some fish!  Do you keep small dogs and kids of that lake?
