« on: February 10, 2012, 05:13:17 PM »
I am looking for one of these for a friend,  any help after someone names what it is would be appreciated. Thanks
Always looking for what interests me, anything early Dodge Brothers/Graham Brothers trucks ( pre 1932 or so ) and slant six / Super six parts.

I know I am coming down with CRS, but have seen something like this before.  How big is it?   I feel like its missing a spring in there, almost like the old mechanism that kept newspapers against the front window of the metal display rack.  Or a really big mouse trap!

I am surprised that this has not been easier for you guys, maybe I have stumped everyone?? Noel is there a special award for that, does this mean Rusty has to give up his knowitall of the century award?
Nothing is missing John, pretty hefty item, maybe 8-10 pounds I would guess. Thanks for at least taking a crack at it.

How about a spreader for tubeless type tires, so a patch can be applied inside the tire ?

Reminds me of the mechanism on the bottom of old wood ironing boards.

I thought a mechanism for a rat trap until I saw the weight.

How about the frame for a fold-down seat in an old car? Like a jump seat.

Oh ya, the weight kind blows the mole trap idea....it would have to be a pretty big mole trap.

One of you guys is pretty close but I am not going say which one until Rusty chimes in with something, anything Rusty, just throw me a bone. Let me know your stumped and then I will tell which one of you guys is pretty close.

I wasthinking along with rhoderman but with the weight it would hav to be a motorcycle.  could also be to hold the spare tire or luggage on a car .  bob w.

It's the biggest darn paper clip I ever saw.....

It looks familiar, but not ringing a bell.....
(Makes me think of a foot for something...)
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Thanks Rusty.............Your still the man.
Ray was closest, it is a rim spreading tool for at least a 1931 1 ton truck, said to fit Model T ford rims as well and also mid twenties Stud. ( see attached rim picture and prob will be clear how it works )
I know of a guy in need of one, I thought maybe Bus or someone here might have one for loan or sale?

I would have agreed with the ironing board (as a best guess) - but obviously would have been wrong.  I actually thought you were looking to determine what the thing was.  I didn't realize this was all a game :)  I like the game.  Hope to watch yall play again sometime soon.  I have many rarely used tools in my pile, but this isn't one of them.
