Howdy from South Arkansas
« on: February 06, 2012, 07:00:41 AM »
Hi Yall! I've been lurking over the last few weeks.  I "registered" today and just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. My career was in the IT industry, more specifically with information technology security in the banking sector. I now live in the country on a couple hundred acres (versus our largest city) and "dabble" in carpentry and the 2-car block wall garage. I find myself buying, selling, trading a few hand tools for a hobby.

Mechanical background - Mechanical work comes by me two ways: 1) in my various hobbies (gardening men love tractors) and 2) when I can't afford the trip to the dealer (e.g. $1200  to the BMW dealer to change my starter). I've overhauled two engines in my life, a chevy 307 and toyo 22R.  I'm about to tackle a Dodge 4.7.  I'm still a fairly practical car owner that doesn't own any overpriced hot rod toys (YET).

I look forward to getting to know you all over time.

Regards,
"FORGED IN THE USA" myself.  Be good to your tools!

Welcome to Tool Talk!
Family had a cabin in Hindsville ( near Fayetteville) for many years, but we sold it twenty years ago since few of us made the trip very often. Mom and Pop went there at least 8 times a year up till 71, then Mom made it many times on her own. My last trip up there was in 82 or 83.

Beautiful area (in general).  I'm guessing you may regret not being able to get away to there.  My mom currently lives in Rudy (population 18) in a cabin.  I enjoy visiting and often find myself resisting the "I'll give you some land to build..." :)  Thanks for the welcome!

I lived in N. Little Rock for almost 30 years and Rudy AR has the USGS gauge for Frog Bayou(maybe Lee Creek, I foregt).  Next time you're in NLR, there's a couple of pawn shops on Mc Aurthur drive that havwe quite a stash of old tools to pick through.  The Levy Pawn guy was much more reasonable  on his prices however!!.  Welcome, from NE Iowa these days!!!

Hello there, DimWittedMoose.  That would be Frog Bayou in Rudy.  It runs through my mom's property as two points.   Thanks for the pointers for LR Pawn shops.  I plan to find myself in that area asap.  I'm still banging Shreveport's pawn shops hard (Casino's there).

I'm sorry to report I can't give you any pawn shop pointers in NE Iowa. :)
