R F & P Railroad Wrench

This large wrench was used by the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac (RF&P) Railroad. It is 19 inches long and weighs slightly over 6 pounds.  The RF & P started operations in 1836. It went out of existence after it was merged into CSX in the 20th century.

Wish it could tell us where its been and how it was used. Suppose it was used on rolling stock rather than track. Square nuts ?

I have one like it marked SCL L&N.  I had it marked as a wrench.  An old gentleman, who retired from Sherfield, Alabama Southern shops, said it was an engine gauge.  He couldn't remember what engine.
