General Hardware Mfg New York
« on: August 20, 2024, 12:44:50 PM »
Fifty cent yard sale find, still in it's plastic blister pack, a General No 8071 ratchet wrench with 2 flat and 2 phillips bits. Maybe 1970's to 1980's vintage? I can't find anything on this manufacturer, but it sure looks like a gas station "grab and go" kinda tool, or something in the discount tool bin at Pep-Boy's. Any ideas?

General Mfg was a quality company.  Items like plumb bobs, scales, calipers, dividers, etc with General logo all appear to have Craftsman equivalent items.  Perhaps they were the provider to Sears.
Definitely not a check out lane cheapo.

You have a good find.

And still in business: https://generaltools.com/.  I own several of their tools, including a 12" flexible rule that stands up to/is as precise as a Starrett.  Well, actually, I have two examples of this rule; I couldn't turn down the second one when it showed up for a low price at a yard sale.
