Found at work!
« on: February 09, 2023, 11:55:35 AM »
I was cleaning my shop at the cemetery where I work and tucked under a shelf on a ledge I found this ruler.  No one working at the cemetery remembers ever having seen it before.  It may have been there for 20 years or even 50 years.   I found an oil change sticker from 1974 on the ledge near the ruler.
Lufkin No. 7165 - its a 10 foot sliding rule of two 5 foot sections.  It has some wear and tear but is still functional.  Archive.org has a 1935 catalog listing the ruler - a quantity of 12 could be purchased (wholesale?) for $30 ($2.50 each).  In today's dollars a dozen would cost about $650 (or $54 each).

Hello, Al. Nice find!  I have seen similar rulers, one offered by a metal kitchen cabinet company. Could also be used for squaring boxes , we just call them measuring sticks!!  Great for inside measurements!! I will check the catalogs!!

Used to use long extension rule all the time for checking overhead clearances in the plant when laying out conveyor paths.
