American Legion Post Tool Sale

I went to a sale early Saturday morning, sale started at 8, but I was early and no other buyers were there. The seller said I couldn't buy anything until 8, but I could look around. I found a box with some Porter Cable tools, and then the seller said I could go ahead and make a pile. Other buyers were now looking too, (and making piles of their own) but then the seller kicked everyone out, and told us to line up in the order that we showed up. I then made a beeline for the box of goodies, paid up, and went back in, taking my time to look again in buckets and bins. I will post the Porter Cable stuff later on. Nice folks, good weather, great tools, fair prices, no haggling on my part, all of the proceeds went to the Legion Post, and all were wearing face coverings!!

Hello, Mike. thanks!! It was a fun sale.nSome of the younger members at the legion camped out overnight to guard the tools (open pavilion), so their boys actually got first dibs on the tools!! The chisel at bottom has an unusual mark;  Emery Waterhouse? Some other lettering I can't make out. have you ever seen that label? Thanks again, Lou

First time I've seen one of those plumbing reamers in a box (yaller box) - I bet it's shiny, too, something else the reamers I've found aren't.

nice catch.   like those two Bruno auger bits there.   Interesting info about the company online - think they were out in Beverly Hills(?) during WW II and stayed around a few years after the war effort.

Hello, Bill. The box looks like it was never opened, the staple clasps are still in place. I opened it to find some metal shavings at the tip, but otherwise it looks healthy!! Hello, p_toad, The Bruno Tools Expansive Bits are in good working condition, plastic case which I had never seen before, completely wrapped shut with old tan colored masking tape!! I am in the process of cleaning off the adhesive, and trying to repair the hinges!! Good call on the timeline and location, the leaflet reads Bruno Tools, Beverly Hills California Copyright 1945.

I'll have to go out and look some time.  I may have a Bruno tools expansive bit, too.

Interesting bit of Los Angeles history.  I betcha a lot of modern residents of that town would be shocked to find out it had an industrial history!

What's the story on the neat multitool, Lou?  Is it a good quality?  How many  tools are in there and what are they?

Our local American Legion used to have a 2 or 4 times a year tool sale , but it was by a wholesaler. Lots of off brand, Japanese, and Chinese tools at low prices. I suppose part of the $ went to the Legion.
That was 30 years ago. Long before Harbor Freight.
You would pick what you wanted to buy, get a slip for it, and pay, then go out to the 18 wheeler and get your tools.

Hello, Al. The pouch is marked TOOLMASTER, tools look like they  saw a little bit of use. Corkscrew, Saw, Awl,Screwdriver, Hammer, Bottle Opener, next one I'm not sure, may have been a chisel blade but is clipped, Can Opener, Gimlet. I think the more desirable ones had a secondary company label, like a Brewery. Regards, Lou

Hello, Papaw. I have been to a few of those sales at the Local American Legion, too. I remember a lot of Cummins Brand Tools. I probably bought some of the import tools, and those either have worn out, or disappeared!! They also used to do a Flea Market once a year, $25.00 for a spot, ( car, truck, or table). Harp Bow or harp multi tool.  I've seen versions from the around 1890.  Spyderco made one more recently.
