Depressing day

One of my newest wrench eBay purchases showed up today, only problem it was only the remnants of the torn box that was re-taped somewhere along the line. Should have had a nice quick adjust wrench in it for me to research. Now the fun and games of trying to file claims to get my money back.

Yes, now the fun starts, and it all depends on the seller.  I have purchased over 1500 tools on e-bay and have only been skunked twice.  Other times the seller took care of the problem.  My best one was a wood boxed  Walden socket set from the 1920's which arrived in a package torn, taped and missing everything except the wood box in 7 or 8 pieces and two sockets.  Took pictures and seller sent me a full refund.  Good Luck!!!!

Bummer, those, always.  Refunds are very nice, but having the original thing not disappear/get ruined is even better.  That Walden set sounds like it would have been a sweet thing to have.

No experience to compare but I think if you paid by charge card, they may cover your loss.  I know Paypal is the usual way to transfer money on ebay, but (in my case at least) Paypal gets the money by charging a credit card.  I know my credit card will cover loss, damage and other problems with items purchased.

I've had one item not show up at all.  I look at the listing occasionally to view the postal reporting.  120 days and still not received.  The shipper made me whole with a refund. I really wanted that fishing multi tool at that price.

I've been lucky and only had one bad deal on Ebay. A man put up pictures and descriptions of wood handled golf clubs. I bought them and received metal shaft wood grained clubs. I took pictures and contacted the seller and he called me a liar and claimed he sent the clubs in the picture. Ebay could not prove otherwise and would not refund my money. My scathing review ended up ending his Ebay career, but he still beat me. Never buy from people with low sales numbers, let other suckers get scammed.

Hello, Lewill2. Sorry that your item got lost. I know this is a long shot, but have you tried contacting the Post Office to see if the wrench was found? I am guessing they have an area where, items displaced from their packaging, might end up? The tracking number should provide a list of the different stops for the package. I am also guessing that this would also be a very lengthy process. As a shipper on ebay, I try to make my packaging bulletproof , (and handler proof ) . As a buyer on ebay, I have had a few packages arrive in very rough shape, but luckily, no damage to the item. Regards, Lou

So far I have filed claims with Paypal and the USPS yesterday, today I am going to file one with my credit card company. The seller is trying to resolve the issue from his end per emails through eBay but I think all will be long drawn out processes. Obviously I wanted the wrench or else I wouldn't have placed my bids. This is only the third time I have issues with eBay purchases over the years. I think the other 2 times items were damaged or not as represented. One other time I purchased a high dollar wrench and the transaction went fine but something in the eBay payment release process went screwy and the seller went ballistic even as far as calling my local post office and berating the post master for screwing up his payment for not scanning a bar code correctly. Life goes on we all learn from our experiences, some more costly than others.

Once I sold some expensive and unusual Harley tank badges and the buyer claimed he never received them.  even though USPS showed them delivered. I ended up refunding his $ and lost on the deal just to keep a 100% rating on Ebay.
Pretty sure he has them, but what can you do- thieves will steal.

I have had very good luck--as a buyer.
My one disappointment had to do with a snow sled.  I got it at no reserve auction for a ridiculously low price but the buyer refused to send it--claimed it was in such poor condition that he could not send it.  I lost no money, but I got no sled...

"Lost in the mail" ends up at a big warehouse in Atlanta -- several eBay sellers buy that merchandise cheap on bulk auctions -- & then resell.  I had a very unique wrench that I sold get "lost in the mail" -- the purchaser got a torn box.  I pursued the matter very hard with our local Postmaster & learned that the loose goods end up in Atlanta.  As for my lost wrench, it ended up in an eBay lot about 6 months later.  I contacted the seller & was told "tough luck for you."

Well, that sucks. I currently have a pocketknife that came from California; went to our regional distribution facility in Charleston; got sent to a post office in Gassaway; then the next day ended up at my local post office in Bluefield, WV early Monday morning.  Wasn't even loaded onto the letter carrier's vehicle. They then sent it to Philadelphia for some stupid reason. Luckily, the seller is an experienced, and well-respected dealer of Swiss Army Knives, so I should get my money back if the USPS has goofed.


Now, packaging nightmares. This doesn't have a thing to do with the USPS at all--all on the seller.  Heavy items and bubble mailers don't mix. I had some items once (action figures) get shipped in a flimsy, unreinforced Ziploc bag box. It was squished, but what came in it was intact.  Then add to that, a knife that was shipped in a stapler box. I've had an overstuffed manilla envelope that I am surprised didn't lose a thing (ripped open).  Then there's those knives that got stolen in Sanford, NC at the post office....  And one of them was a rather nice Buck.

I purchased a used Erthway seeder on eBay for my father.  The seller put it in a flimsy plastic dog food bag , but he did triple zip tie all the plates and other small parts so it all arrived safe and on time.  Lucky for me the Earthway is a sturdy product or at least this one was.
