Hello, Stan. Sounds like the place you work for should have access to proper PPE. Should you decide to wear one, you should be wearing an N95 (particulate rating) Disposable Respirator (  double strap, with metal nose crimp). These are made with or without an exhalation valve to relieve moisture buildup inside the mask. If you feel the need to wear one, and they are not available, I may be able dig up a few, and send them your way. Regards,  Lou

Lou,  my daughter is a nurse at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie & they are concerned about PPE.  If you have some to spare, a local health care provider would likely appreciate getting it.
A few customers appear with some kind of disposable paper masks, or handkerchiefs -- more have gloves -- nothing has been said about precautions for staff  beside use hand sanitizer & with no known local cases (of course the store I work at is right on Interstate 80 half way between Chicago & Denver ) too drastic measures of PPE would tend to spread panic.  Our store is undergoing a remodel, and the first stage of that was to remove all but four (out of nine)  regular check out line & replace them with self-check.  Self-check attendants have to wade through that mass of humanity, carts, etc. to deal with glitches & provide customer assistance. The layout does not jibe with "social distance."  Sometimes there are two attendants to deal with twelve self-check stations  on the "grocery" side of the store, sometimes three or perhaps four around the time to change shifts.  There are four self-check units by the other "less used" door, and that set has a single attendant -- I was at that set six hours yesterday.

My boss is applying to be officially an "essential provider".  Some of his customers are under contract to state gov't (New York State), not to mention local municipalities and police depts.  As such I am still working (and earning!).   There are 3 of us working in the shop, with almost no exposure to the public.  Our boss is handling the front counter.

This link is to a discussion on Britbike.com about safe practices.   I recommend reading the post, although it is long, I believe the information is very practical in this critical   situation.  The post is by Britbike member Semper Gumby from Atlanta, an airline pilot,  and the post is called "Mitigating the Virus".
Stay safe
Al
(Edit) On reviewing the post I would suggest not being distracted too much by the comments but stay focused on the posts by Semper Gumby.  Thanks.

I have been absent for a few days because I developed a kidney infection and spent Monday through Thursday at UTMB Angleton. Came home yesterday and am recovering at home. No visitors and as little going out in public as necessary. I was tested for Corvid19 and checked out negative with those results to be confirmed by the CDC.

Live in the boonies, retired, and got plenty of work staring at me right in my yard.   Quick trips to the grocery, havent seen any tp there for 12 days, but my stock is good.  Had a burger in town to break the monotny of home cooking.  No garage sales, habitat restores are closed, so been searching corners of my old sop at home.  Always making some [ when did get this ]  finds.

Well guys, My wife has some of the same medical issues that I have, bad heart and COPD. She went to the grocery Monday and picked up a few things. Now she is in bed with 102 fever and hard breathing. I'm starting to feel bad myself now, we'll see. Only one place to get tested and that ain't good. Waiting game because there is nothing they can do anyway. ;-(

There are things you can do. I have confirmed both of these things to make sure they were not old wives tales: 1st, loads of vitamin C. 1500 mgs 4 times a day. 2nd, stay away from Ibuprophin or is it acitominophin.  Tylenol is safe whichever one that is but stay away from the other. these both may turn out to be BS, but at this point both have been confirmed by  multiple sources.

Use Tylenol which is acetaminophen.  "Tylenol - Generic drug name: Acetaminophen".  The World Health Organization originally warned against using ibuprofen but now has changed its stance.  Some sources claim ibuprofen can cause the virus to spread faster.
I would rather err on the side of caution and stay with acetaminophen.

Well, I said one place to get tested and that ain't good, I was right. UofL hospital and they said that they will not test anyone that is not sick enough to be hospitalized. I told the guy that by then it will be too fu**ing late and hung up on him. We're on our own for a fact.

Hello, papadan.  My best to you and your wife. I agree with international3414, the place to start for testing is with your Primary Care Physician. Regards, Lou

Primary is the one that told us to go to UofL, and I let them know that and who my primary is. Didn't matter.

Take care, hope it is only (well even that is not good), the flu.  Sounds like something stinks in the health system of Kentucky.
