Need ID on a plane
« on: January 07, 2020, 10:16:38 AM »
Perhaps someone can help this friend in France find some info on his plane.

"I have in my possession a beautiful and large planer in wood and metal that I hold from my family (see attachment).

I would like to know a little more about this tool, in particular about its history, the year of its manufacture, is it a rare tool, which country, etc.

If I can't tell me, can you give me the contact details of someone who could help me with these searches.

Thank you in advance for your help and your information, I wish you a happy new year 2020."

Looks like someone designed a handle with some strength, one that would not snap in the middle.
I always wondered why Perfect Handle did not catch on as a handle design.
The ORIGINAL Northwoods.

I got quick ID from folks on Antique Tools : Buy Sell and trade on Facebook, including a note from Jim Bode IDing that plane as a Chardoillet (France 1852). The patent for this plane dates back to 1852, and for one of the first versions of the system, you can find a patent from 1844.

Is that an adjustable-pitch plane?  Looks like it is.

Patrick Leach says- "That guy has spammed the entire net with that plane.

I received it twice.

Must be too much cognac running through his brain."
