Wiltons & Littlestown

Hello, I picked these up today. All have 3-1/2" jaws and swivel bases. On the left is a Wilton, no model number. In the middle is a Wilton Shop King, pipe jaws & cut-off pin, pretty rough paint. On the right is a Littlestown No.112. Regards, Lou

Hello, Yadda. I just took the Shop King apart to clean it, and I missed a damaged part when I bought it. I should have learned by now to completely dis-assemble any vise before paying for it!!!!    It works fine, so I may try an epoxy repair, looks like a scary area to braze, or weld. Too bad about that break; but, of course, this is the price, for all of us, of getting used stuff: sometimes we find not-bargains that we thought, when we opened the wallet, were good buys.

Hello, Bill. I am hoping it is not structural, the bar still seems tight in the casting. I will bring it in to work tomorrow and have one of our welders look at it. As far as the epoxy repair goes, I was only hoping for a cosmetic infill. I don't think the PO knew about the break, and I did offer quite a bit less than his asking price, due to the overall condition. Would I have still bought it, knowing about the break? Heck ya!!! I needed the cut-off pin for a pattern, and I have a soft spot for the Shop Kings (or anything Wilton)

Hello, Bill. I did catch a break on this one. I had a guy come over for an item I had on Craigslist, and he asked about the vise. He said that he could repair it, and he agreed to trade the repair for the item I was selling. Not only did he do a great job of repairing it, he brought it back the next day!! So after a little handwork with a file , I have a structural repair that looks pretty good!!! Regards, Lou

Hello, Yadda. Thanks!!  Al, The Shop King Vises have a distinctive look, but you need to keep an eye open for casting breaks, cracks, etc. Most of the ones that I find are more like Art Wrecko!! Regards, Lou

I have had two of those small Wilton vises. Sold one and kept one. I didn't take me long to figure out vises with a exposed screw get gummed up quickly when cutting something. You have grease on the screw to make it work easier and last longer. When you are cutting something in the vise right over the screw, the cuttings gets mixed in with grease on the screw and the trouble begins. I cover the screw with a paper towel or shop rag to keep the junk off the screw. My Wilton has the part number 121068 cast on the  left side when looking at the front on the vise.

  I found a 3 in. one a couple years ago that was in excellent condition except for one broken foot on the swivel base. I bought it anyway since it was so nice, and only 5 bucks. I figured i’d find another one that was broken elsewhere and snag the base for mine. No such luck. This is the only one i’ve even seen, regardless of size.

On the plus side it did have the little cut-off hardy that is usually missing.
