Marples chisels: trying again

I owned some Marples chisels, purchased new, back in the 1970s.  I found them frustrating: they chipped way too easily.  So I got rid of them.  Today, at a moving sale, I gave in to temptation, and purchased a full set of Marples chisels with boxwood handles, nearly unused although a touch rusty.  We'll see if I have the same issues, or if I'm smarter now and thus better able to use them.

I find the William Marple and Sons chisels, (pre '61) to be excellent chisels.

A few months after getting those, I had the opportunity to buy a set of Lee Valley PM-V11 chisels below retail, and pretty much unused; so the Marples chisels have gone into storage, for when I have time to clean them up and, probably, sell them.

OK, now you have the very best available chisels out there. Great choice. They were designed to be sharpened with Japanese water stones, BTW.

I hope they'll be able to handle being sharpened with diamond stones.
