Bridgeport ripper

Got this Bridgeport (Ripper) crate tool at auction thursday. The thin end caught my eye. Don't recall seeing this before. Is it fairly rare or am I living a too sheltered life ?
The Dunlap was also intriguing and I coudn't pass up the Plomb pebble.

I’ve had quite a few of the Bridgeport's and a several of other brands, but none had anything like that sticking out the side. Maybe a PO modified it?
