Got this little cutie at an auction a week ago, but not totally sure it's a metal or wood blade in there, so I'll start with the metal working folks' forum first.  Does anyone know how old this thing is with the raised lettering of "DISSTON  USA" on it?  It's a very cool saw and it uses a 10" blade.

Thanks

My guess would be a meat saw? Precious litte protection for knuckles if you over stroked or misjudged the last stroke, cutting off in a vice! and who hasn't done that.

I think it is a No 6 dehorning saw. 1918 Disston Catalog p 181..... http://www.roseantiquetools.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/disston1918.pdf

I think that is it!
I remember taking my younger son to a "Large Animal" Vet's place once, and we watched him de-horn some Herefords. It was exciting and gross at the same time! Blood squirting everywhere, and the vet rapidly tying off veins.

Good call, Cliff!

I would never have guessed that...
