Local Pick Part 2
« on: March 30, 2019, 06:14:45 AM »
Here are the clamps that came from the local pick. These were rusty, frozen, and the C-clamp screws were bent. These were cleaned with Evaporust, and then put in the tumbler .I used  new square head set screws for the feed screws on the C-clamps. There is a Brown & Sharpe pair in the middle row, and a pair of Starretts. The rest were shop made by the former owner, Regards, Lou

Well they sure cleaned up real nice. Tumbler? Like a vibratory tumbler, or a rock polishing tumbler?

Hello, Bob. I use a vibratory tumbler with plastic resin media (shaped like small pyramids) , with Simple green & water. Good rust cutting without ruining the finish. Regards, Lou

Hmmm, I might have to try that. I've got a vibratory tumbler, but it's pretty small. It was used for cleaning brass shells before reloading them. It's about 9 inches around, but with a big center "post" in the middle. So the working area is like a donut only a few inches wide. It seems like a it would be a tight fit for any tools over about 5 or so inches long.

Hello, Bob. Mine are Berry's, purchased from Cabellas. Mine are also intended for brass shells, I just use different media. The 2 on the bench are considered 5 lb. tumblers, that is tools & media combined weight, and the bowls are 10-1/2" in diameter, and 4" deep. The one on the floor is from Harbor Freight, 18 lb. capacity, and the bowl is 14" dia. in the center, and 7" deep. I have worn through the bowls with the metal, but I was able to repair them, and I have bought replacements as well.Regards, Lou
