Last day off before new job
« on: November 14, 2018, 03:58:25 PM »
The rental store I wrenched for is closing its doors - Friday was my last day.  Tomorrow I will start at Auburn Chain Saw and Mower.  The owner/service manager seems like a very nice guy.  Anyway, today I took some scrap metal into Syracuse and stopped at the ReStore.  I brought them a large box of tools n' stuff as well as an office chair.
I found a few goodies:
Craftsman dado blade insert that fits my table saw.  General pocket rule.  Langline FG-2 feeler gage set.  Stanley 99E utility knife.  Powr-Kraft coping saw in great shape.  Unmarked alligator.  Park bicycle tool CCP-2 - I'll have to look it up to see what its for.  On the way out I spotted a case in a box and it was this IBM Volt-Ohm-Meter.  I am now about to see if it will work.

Looks like a good haul, does the meter work and how much did it all cost?

$8.50 plus 8% tax.  And yay! the meter works.  Inside were two totally dead AA Eveready batteries - the old red ones.  A tiny leak at one of the positive ends but did not touch the meter.
The meter says IBM on the face.  Also on the face - Made In Japan Model 200C and a serial number.  Inside the cover only a paper sticker with the numbers 74-12.  The 3 screws on the back cover are white plastic.
The gator wrench has only a number 2 stamped on it.  Apparently these things came in sizes?

Alligator wrenches did have sizes, but not always marked.

Thanks, Mike.  Today went very well.  My boss JC (Jim Cummings, not Jesus Christ) guided me thru a series of snowblower repairs and one lawn tractor.  He has a very efficient service plan.  The shop in general - not so efficient - wow! there is stuff everywhere.  Apparently none of his employees care about cleaning the place.  The restrooms are clean, though, thank God.
Here's a photo of my work area -

Those are my tool boxes - Proto bottom cabinet and the orange MBC top box.
This little sweetie is on the back wall - a very small Atlas lathe

Looks like you'll have fun there!  That they would have a lathe, in case of the need to make a part, is a good sign.

That lot you got for 8.50 would cost about 47.00 at my ReStore, if they ever had anything that good.

That Park tool looks like a crank remover. You remove the bolt holding the crank to the bottom bracket shaft, and then screw this tool into the threaded hole of the crank arm. Then you turn in the handle of the tool, and it will pull the crank off of the shaft.
