and the phoenix rises from the ashes
« on: October 06, 2018, 11:24:41 PM »
Well, I won't equate myself to that magical bird that so many mythologies are based upon.  I'm not that presumptuous!  But, I am a bird. I've been gone so long that only those persons that have been around this sight forever will hopefully remember me. I looked at my profile, curious to see when I began this great adventure with you folks, it's been 7 years ago!!!!!

Yes, I still suck at posting pictures... new computer, new shit that I can't figure out... sent all my pics to Papaws email. I'm sure he'll post them at some point. I had to put one of my dogs down in January, and I had to put my other dog, Sallie down last week.... one of the saddest days I can remember .  Oh, it was awful. She fell, had a bad break, and we knew there was no point in keeping her around. Now, we have an "empty nest" syndrome. But, Anne and I have decided not to get another dog for awhile. It's hard to travel, which we would like to do, when you own a dog.
So, that's that story.

I know, I know, I have yet to talk about tools. But, for anyone who remembers me..... this is always how my posts begin.
On a lighter and better note, I did manage to dig up 60 wrenches today-- adjustables  with wooden handles. I still have another three bins (the size of the green recycling plastic bins) that I haven't got around to tackling yet. As some of you may remember , a few years back I bought those ten pallets or so of tools.... took three months to figure out how to ship them to me.... by train? by truck?..... anyhow, that's an ongoing project.
I had to spend a few months away from the tools due to other orders of woodworking stuff that I had to build. But, once I got out of the ritual of ebay, I've found it darn near impossible to make myself get back into it. Somehow, someone needs to kick me in the ass and make me start back up with that business. I can tell you one thing, sitting around here, rearranging wood piles, cleaning machinery, ect.  is definitely not making me any money!!!! I don't need much to live off of.... but, I need to get this ebay business back off the  ground again. At one point I was pretty proud of myself. I shipped and got to know persons from over 11 other countries. Somehow, it's all slipped away from me. I had a good excuse for awhile... those other shop projects I was commissioned to do.... but, that's come and gone. And yes, I am Bird the Rambler for good reason :)
Well, I've gotten myself into a mess. I've sold a lot of those tools from those pallets..... hmmmm, I've still got between 800-1000 planes to sell! I can't even remember what my furniture looks like.... it all got moved into the shed in order to make room for the tools. Thank goodness no one else lives with me!!!!!
As for a sickness with tapes.... try looking at my plane collection. Then, consider the only furniture left in your house is a bed and a couch..... then you've got pneumonia and may not recover!!! I had to build a floor up in the attic so that I had somewhere to store all of my books, which I do miss, terribly.
So, in summary, if you've moved all of your furniture out to a shed, moved everything else up in the attic because that's the only way you can fit all the tools in your house..... then, you've got a problem!
I come and go, mostly go these days, but most days I think of some of my special friends on this sight and hope that they are doing well. I hope everyone is doing ok

cheers

bird

Very happy to hear from you! I have been wondering how you have been.

Thanks for the update it sounds like except for the dogs all is well.

Who needs furniture when you have tools?

All my taste is in my tools.

Hello, Bird. Good to hear from you, and I am sorry about the dogs. Good luck with getting back to ebay, I also find it difficult to get going after a break. Tale care, Lou

Welcome back, bird.  Sorry to hear about your dogs.  I occasionally check your ebay listing, seeing nothing, and hoping you're OK.

Jenny, I feel your pain about the pets. We had two go back a couple of years ago.

As for tools, I find they just sit and wait for you to get back to them !

I see all those emails, and will pull the pictures as soon as I can and post them here.

Somehow, someone needs to kick me in the ass and make me start back up with that business.
Consider it done, Bird:

Like Amecks, I check your eBay store from time to time, hoping to see that you're back in business, as a sign that you're doing better.

Such a delight to see your post again, even with the really sad news.  Dogs have a way of sneaking in and stealing our hearts, don't they?

Take care of yourself, and know that we're all here, pulling for and with you.

Bill

Good to hear from you!  My condolences on your losses.

Start with one listing.  Every journey starts with the first step.
You might say I have a tool collecting problem....
