We used to ship oilfield parts we made to Houston via UPS. The customer said they were getting damaged boxes delivered which were missing parts. The boxes weighed around 35 pounds and I doubled boxed the parts and wrapped enough strapping tape around them every direction that they could survive rough handling.
One day our customer called laughing about their latest shipment. It seems the driver carried the box into their building leaving a trail on parts from the box on the ground. When the customer told the driver those small heavily worked lock plates cost $48 each and there was only about 10 left out of the 100 we shipped left in the box she said the look on the drivers face was priceless. It was insured and UPS had to pay the nearly $5,000.
I could pack parts to survive rough handling. It was impossible to pack them to survive getting run over or dropped from high altitude.
