Plomb WF tool question
« on: June 27, 2018, 09:26:53 AM »
I mentioned on another site that I am always finding 3/8" WF-23 Plomb spinners.  I must have six of them.
Just yesterday I found my first 1/2" WF-40 spinner.  I have another ordinary 1/2" spinner, but hadn't really noticed that I didn't already have the WF-40.
Now that I think of it, I believe I have more 3/8" and 9/32" WF rats than 1/2".
My question is this:  Was WWII fought more with 3/8" stuff than 1/2"?  Or were the 1/2" tools more likely to have been worn out and tossed away?
Any thoughts?

Stuff marked WF was military contract or surplus after the war.  I believe much of what we see now was pilfered from the military or sold thorough surplus outlets and it was easier to pilfer the smaller stuff than the larger. I think that's why 9/32 and 3/8 shows up more than 1/2. At least that's my guess.
All my taste is in my tools.

Consider that the average mechanic or auto owner didn't often need 1/2"  drive in those days.
