Barn sale
« on: March 10, 2018, 02:28:39 PM »
Yesterday I went to this sale in the middle of an afternoon lake effect snow squall.  Fortunately it was not too far out of the way and I arrived safely.  I entered the barn through a door so small I smacked my head.  Good thing I had a hat to cushion the blow.  Looking around I didn't see much, then the lady said "The mechanic shop is through that door".  Access was through another small door, to a ladder, and about 5 feet down.  So here I found a few items and the lady asked if I wanted a box and of course I said "Sure".  I had the small box pretty full and asked her how much I had there. "You don't have $10 yet - keep looking". OK.  Then she brings a bigger box.  I asked about the catalogs.  "Take 'em" she says.  I pull a few more items and ask again about cost.  "The box isn't full yet".  So I find a few more pieces and I go back upstairs and find some more stuff.
After about an hour I was wanting to leave so I asked again about the price telling her I thought the box was pretty full. Ten dollars.  I gave her a 20 and she said she didn't have change.  I said "Keep it.  You forced me against my will to fill the box so I'm forcing you to take the 20. It's only fair."
Here are pictures I took this morning.  I knew very little about what I had until later this morning when I did some online research, which I'll add to the description below.

Starting top left is an almost full box of soapstone. Cutting oil, Coleman filter funnel, Yamaha tools, small grease gun, Splitdorf 6 volt ignition coil, air drill, 3 unmarked taillight lenses, Indestro, unmarked and Mossberg sockets with bars, Willson metal box (once held goggles), Skil air hammer and driver, Sun 6 volt timing light, unmarked vise grip, bicycle wrench (marked only with Pat date - John Zilliox for Park Metalware), 2 little perfect handle drivers - one is marked SB Germany, lug wrench to use at work, spanner 105 and S wrench D420.
Mi section - the box is a complete kit for installing turn signals in 1940-51 autos Arrow N225, new buffing wheel, Bright Star 2124 flashlight, Carpenter rechargeable flashlight, K-D 126 hi lo voltage tester,  bundle of wrenches includes; Bonney 21, Williams 27 USS size, BluePoint S1820, 3 Barcalos, 2 Vlchek; WWII magazine pouch 1943, Napa battery terminals, sewing machine type clamp holding a bunch of sanding discs,  glass reflector federal 95, Brakfix riveter Pat #2054268, brake riveter Pat Apld For.
The catalogs include the two 50's truck manuals, Allis Chalmers Model B parts/owner manual (2), mower and chainsaw manuals, Briggs and Stratton manuals and parts lists, Sturtevant torque specs, and the Proto catalog printed 1969.  Many power tool and auto parts catalogs - Milwaukee, Ingersoll Rand, Black and Decker, Napa ignition and Champion spark plugs.  Also a 1973 catalog of snowmobile/ATV parts from Guaranteed Parts Co. in nearby Seneca Falls, NY.
Additional information appreciated as I will be looking to sell many of these items soon.

you did real well, all good stuff.  that number plate reflector has all the marbles, will bring a good price.

installing kit for turn signals brings back memories of doing some of those, the switch that mounted on the steering column
was a pain in the butt.  the owner would knock it out of synch and come back to readjust it.

the metal screw driver, is the a name or advertising on it ?

  good days work.  Frank

You did extremely well.   Those battery terminal adaptors nice, if you have to put a top terminal battery in a GM with side terminals.  Six volt timing light,  Looks lke a Sunnen?  Nice, just nice.

I went to a estate sale today. No prices on anything. Lot of neat stuff. Every time I asked the woman a price on something, she gets on her cell phone and looks up the current new price on newer stuff and eBay selling price on older stuff. She wants half the new price on newer items and the current selling price on older items that are on eBay. I just walked away shaking my head as many other people were doing also. Tomorrow is our flea market day and I always do good there.

EvilDr235, Wow.  I would walk away also.  You would have freaked out at this sale - there were several VERY large engines.  They looked like single cylinders and a couple were definitely Kohler.  Some were just the engine and others were part of generators or pumps.

I do like old one cylinder engines. Briggs cast iron models are my favorite because they can still be found cheap and parts are easy to get. I did go to the flea market today. I picked up a couple more Mitchell and Mitchell Garcia model 300 spinning reels and one nice Penn ocean reel. My late father inlaw got me my first Mitchell Garcia spinning reel and now I have about a dozen.
