File & Tool Holder
« on: February 03, 2018, 01:15:25 PM »
Hello, A guy at work brought in one of these, so I decided to dig out what I had. His looked an awful lot like an E C Stearns, but was unmarked. The 2 on the left are stamped SYR-ALL MADE IN USA, I found both without the clamp. The 3 on the right have the clamp, but may be damaged? Not sure if made that way, or were dropped. Amecks, if you are looking at this, any help with a local company called SYR-ALL?  Thanks, Lou

Hi Lou,  I have never heard of Syr-All.  I'll have to see if I can learn something about it.  Those holders are very interesting to me, though I have never had one.

Thanks, Al. I am working on the missing clamps, & the proper size thumb screw. Apparently, a 12-24 thumb screw is a hard one to find. Thanks again, Lou

Lou,

You have far too many of those and are creating an imbalance in the universe that will cause the destruction of the earth.  I can help.  Just let me know, and I'll send my address....

Those are the most useful dang things.  I've got two and keep hoping I'll run across the estate sale of a guy who bought every one he found, and a family who thinks they're useless old trash.

This is NOT an attempt to talk you out of any of them...you should hold onto yours, for sure!

I have one with a clamp but I'll have to check on the style of thumb screw.

Did you check good old McMaster Carr for a thumb screw?

Hello, Guys . Thanks for all of the replies. I checked my stash of old thumb screws, not a 12-24 in there. I found a source to buy their minimum of 25 pieces, I will keep looking. I was able to come up with a 12-24 wing nut & set screw, will try an epoxy weld on the threads. Btw, I found two more of the handles, with clamps, yesterday, at the flea. Lewill2 , I like that that style thumb screw!!!!!!!  Thanks again, Lou

It does look like they'll be hard to find, especially with a wing style knob.  I'd be happy to braze the wing nut/screw assemblies for you (for free of course).

Hello, Al. Thanks for the generous offer, I may take you up on that. In the meantime, I am still trying to run down a source. Thanks again, Lou
