Ebay Global Shipping
« on: January 30, 2018, 04:58:30 PM »
I sold a Baby Coes on Ebay and the buyer is in  Canada, so it was delivered through the Ebay  Global Shipping system. It went from me to Kentucky and then to Canada.

He paid me postage to Kentucky, and then an additional $11.03 International Leg, plus $20.28 import charges to the international shipper !

Hello, Papaw. I always wondered how much more the buyer had to pay, using the Global Shipping Program. It makes sense for an up-charge going overseas, but all of that seems harsh to ship to Canada. I wonder if ebay is being up-front with our Global Buyers?   Regards, Lou

I  think the buyer has the option to see the charges before buying. Maybe one of our northern neighbors  can tell us.

Would not surprise me if those numbers were in the ball park for Canada. Most wont buy from here because of the shipping.
A person who could really read human minds would be privileged to gaze on some correct imitations of chaos.

Years ago I shipped a 56 Chevy overdrive transmission to Germany thru the U.S.Post Office. I had to break in down to fit in two boxes to make the weight limit. First box got there ok. The second box took two months because it got held up in customs. Customer was pizzed at me. I tried to tell him it was not my fault. I also once sent a Hollander exchange manual for auto / trucks parts overseas. After a month the customer emailed me wanting to know where his item was. I told the guy to talk to his mailman. He emailed me back saying the mailman had stuck it under his porch so it would not get wet because it would not fit in the mailbox. At that point I quit shipping out of country. A few months later I dropped Ebay altogether.

Disappointed in Vancouver.

I live in Prince George British Columbia Canada which is about 500 miles north of the border. Several years back when I was still working I bought quite a bit on ebay and had it shipped to Canada but it cost a LOT. I have a son who lives in Portland OR so now I have Items shipped to his place and we usually go down 3 to 4 times a year. I never kept real close track of shipping costs but it's probably 3 to 4 times more to ship to Canada, but it does depend on weight and size of the item.

Then greed bay insisted on insured/recorded delivery so what went priority for $9 jumped to $34.95 and what the seller received after combined fees were deducted I can only guess.

I ship a lot on Ebay.. Global shipping works like this.  When you list something on Ebay you have to check the Global Shipping feature.  Then when Global Shipping is chosen by the customer the additional calculated import and shipping charges for the customer are applied to the value, size and weight.  So for example if you sell a 6" wrench and put in your shipping size and weight - 10 x 8 bubble envelope - 2 pounds, the customer gets charged international shipping for that size and weight.. But say you put 6x6 box and 10 pounds for the same item then they get charged $$$... Also I believe if you leave your shipping size and weight empty then they also get charged $$$ because Ebay doesn't know how big the item is and how much it weighs.. So make sure you have the shipping size and weight (including weight of box and packing material) correct so the customer can get the best price through Ebay.
