We've driven the Chevy from Cleveland to Tampa about 10 times over the past 15 years for the SE Nats.  You're right about the trailer.  When I was building it I was advised to cut about 2 feet off the original tongue.  It had a tendency to hop whenever I hit a bump so I took it to a trailer shop in Tampa.  They told me to add about 2 feet to the tongue!

Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

And if it is empty it hops worse! My wife and I rode our BMW to Arkansas back in 1985, pulling a trailer with just our clothes and light camping gear in it. That was bad, so we picked up nice looking rocks along the way to give it some stability. Trip home was much better.

I'm the good looking one at the forge.  The forge was an eBay purchase ten or twelve years ago, and is one of only seven original traveling forges known to exist.  The rest are in museums, but ours comes out and works.  Best of worlds, somebody else bought it, but I get to use it!

That's Righteous, Branson and very very Cool.  What does the pulling end look like?

Here's a photo of a repro forge that shows the off side.  I'll try to post a drawing from
the period that shows the construction.

In the picture, you can see a two wheeled cart (called a limber) .  The forge is attached to the limber (just as are the battery wagon and the cannons themselves) -- think of a trailer/tractor rig.  The limber is drawn by a six up team, driven by three riders on the near horses.

I use two different pics for different purposes. Neither is an accurate representation of me.
One not so clear (just to make a point to my boss) and the other is the look I use when robbing banks, I mean, for Halloween. Yep, for Halloween, Boys!
