A Christmas update from me
« on: December 24, 2017, 01:27:55 PM »
Merry Christmas to all my wrench buddies.

I figured a quik update once again.

I did some technical classes through work. The engineering portion was hard but I did ok. The tig went good. However I may not use those skills anytime soon. I took a position working in the field for 7 months or so, starting soon. I have done some field work but nothing like this. Ile only be home a few times so ile miss my family. If I choose later that I don’t like the field I can go back to the shop. Either way ime pretty happy with my career. I remember a highschool teacher telling me the unemployment line is better then welding, but I disagree. I had paid schooling, paid tools, an still cleared 65k this year. Next year with recent training an no schooling or tool deductions an traveling bonus I could easily make 100k not including paid travel expenses. Money aside I love what I do. For me I don’t think there’s anything better. I know there’s easier jobs but it’s something I trually love.

Once again merry Christmas.
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

Merry Christmas to you too, Good Luck on your new endeavors at work. I have traveled for work for over 38 years. When I started I already had a family, I was fortunate that I got home most weekends or every other weekend. It takes a special kind of person to do that kind of work. When I first started I was told if you last 3 years, still have your family and still like the work with travel you will probably make it for as long as you want. I got to see a lot of the USA and some overseas & South America during my travels. Be careful of all of the guys that want to hang out in the bars every night.

Just remember money isn't  everything, family and friends are more important.

It's always good to hear someone likes their job.  My wife and I both like our respective jobs very much.  But we make less than 65K between us.  Save as much money as you can - you never know what the future holds.

When a man loves his job, it is worth more than money or fame.
As long as a man, or woman, has enough money to live on...

You've come a long way Nola and it's good to see you doing well. Wish you luck in all you do.
