Ebay pricing
« on: December 09, 2017, 07:13:18 PM »
Hello, I am always looking for comparison pricing for the tools that I plan to sell on ebay, and elsewhere. I could probably put together a lot of tools as seen in item number  261190728591. I could not imagine asking for that kind of money. Am I under-valueing my items?  Thanks, Lou

Is it better to sell more items for less or not sell it for a high price ??  I've had a few Ebay sellers complain to me  that I'm selling my stuff too cheap. I think that a lot of Ebayers sell for way too high.

I never concern myself with what sellers WANT their items to sell for. I look at SOLD listings only.

I am also selling at the lowest prices I will sell at, don't care what others say.

40 years ago my and my wife sold old car parts and related items at Northern California car swap meets. We spent all our free time buying items to resell. During the good weather months we did good and had few people saying we were charging too much for our stuff. I had a lot of people say we were charging too little. These were the same people that had the same stuff to sell over and over and rarely selling their stuff. I had the run of a scrap metal buyer that sold many valuable items to me for scrap metal prices. My wife's father worked at Travis Air Force base in Fairfield California running a auction there once a month and would give us military surplus stuff that he bought for us to resell. I wish now I had kept some of that stuff now. One item I wish I had kept was a WWII Cadillac tank engine that I got at the scrap yard. I also use to find lots of vintage hot rod parts there.

Hello, I base my pricing on sold items too. I just thought that I might have been missing something, and wondering what this guy was smoking. Regards, Lou

I use sold listings a lot too, but they can be all over also. I usually try to see if the condition of mine is better or worse than the sold item, and price accordingly. Whatever this guy smokes, maybe he should list some of it for sale.

Hey your getting 35% off that's a great deal.

The seller is right proud of those tools.  They are clean; maybe the seller is, say, an attorney or a doctor, and is charging for time spent making them pretty, at his/her standard hourly rate.

But Papaw! There's a perfect handle screwdriver!  Jump on that immediately!

Looking at "luckytools" feedback listings shows that he is selling his items.  He also has a 100% feedback rating for 2,273 sales.  This tells me he has established himself with high end buyers.
My ebay sales are based on "sold" listings prices.  I try to come in close to or even below the lowest price (based on condition and shipping costs).  I just sold a Singer Featherweight sewing machine for $250 plus shipping - in two weeks.  I could have sold it for up to $400 but I would have to wait a very long time for a buyer.

Hello, Al. Thanks for the reply, I started this conversation. You are right, the seller has great feedback, and sells quality NOS merchandise. I was questioning the justification of value on one item, I did not mean to criticize the seller's overall great reputation. Regards, Lou

Hi Lou, I know you weren't being critical.  I was just kind of amazed at his prices and sales history.
