Three rusty hacksaws...
« on: March 18, 2017, 01:33:54 PM »
Actually four saws that were in a box of stuff my neighbor gave me.  I have been slowly going thru the box saving some items and tossing a few.  The saws are the last items from the box.  One was a simple non adjustable with wood handle that is frozen and had no stamping on it.  Ill probably try and use the handle for a file handle.
That saw had spring loaded parts that held the blade on the pins so it wouldn't come off.

The three saws above are as found except for a quick swipe thru the wire wheel to look for maker's marks.  The top saw is marked REVERE MFG. CO.  PHOENIX NY, Phoenix is about 20 minutes NE from here.  I couldn't find anything about the company.

The middle saw is marked CONSOLIDATED TOOL WORKS INC.  NEW YORK, U.S.A. and has their ship's wheel logo and No. 21.  The tightening threads in the handle are working. Sydnas Sloot webpage says CTW did business from the 1890's to the 1920's.  The logo looks like it say "PILOT".

The bottom saw is RED DEVIL No. 1942 MADE IN U.S.A.

The plan is to clean them up and test them at work.  Some of the older, simpler saws work better and cut straighter then new ones.  Or it may be that I'm too cheap to buy a really good new saw!
