As usual, I fly in and out of this site.... my favorite site... the only "site" I visit :) I just wanted to say hello to my friends and let you know I'm thinking of you all.... even if I'm absent for awhile. From the last ridiculous bunch of tools I bought (for anyone that doesn't know me, that lot was 8 tall pallets of tools), sales have been going pretty well. It's hard to gauge just how well I'm doing, due to the mass quantity of tools !!! As best as I can tell, I'm a little over the half way point to breaking even. I don't think I've sold more then 1/8 of the tools I bought. So, if that math works out, I'll still be able to buy food in a year :) !!! Boy, this has been quite the adventure! I keep finding new treasures as I dig through my house. I haven't even touched many of the wrenches I have (which must be close to 8 or 900 wrenches). They are not inside, due to me wanting my floor to not to cave in..... hmmmm, do I have a problem???? 8 huge bins or so of wrenches reside on the front (covered) porch right now. I have a ton of farm / implement wrenches that I haven't begun to research yet.
The wrenches I bought were more of a personal purchase then a business investment, which many other tools have / will hopefully be. I've gotten as far as organizing some of them into categories..... pipe wrenches, adjustable wrenches, farm / impliment wrenches, socket wrenches (although, I didn't get very many of those), ...... and then the catch all "unmarked" wrenches. It's an adventure I look forward to investigating in the future. As for now, I'm doing my best to clean up tools that will bring me, lord willing, a little bit of money. I know we are all wrench collectors. But, many of us collect more then just wrenches. I've finally gotten all my molding planes somewhat organized. I'd say around 600 hollow and rounds, many reeding planes, a ton of tongue and groove planes (unfortunately, most don't bare the same brand for a matching set), beads, complex, nosing, .... then into the big boys.... lots of them , too.
Of course, then there are the transitionals, metal planes, and my favorite category .... planes obviously made by one individual to serve a specific purpose. We see that in wrenches all the time-- tools modified to fit a specific need. I guess that's before we lived in the disposable era of tools that we now live in.
I've been fortunate to meet some very interesting persons that have specific things they are an expert in. I've now got a marking gauge guy, an axe guy, a saw guy, a rule guy, a north eastern plane guy, ect. So, I've gotten to meet all of these persons that are complete experts in very specific tool categories. Of course, I don't need a "wrench guy" ..... I've got plenty of those due to you kind folks!!!! Anyhow, I feel like the learning curve I am getting through all these folks is rapidly making me a more knowledgeable tool collector. Oh, and I left out my friend who is a cobbler.... he's lots of fun!
I often get calls from persons in the community wanting a specific old tool..... I'm famous!!!! How about that, pops :) ??? I'm just kidding. But, it is nice ot be making a "name" for myself.
I love you all, and wouldn't dream of writing a short note..... I always intend to live up to my "resident rambler" name.
