Different old ratchet
« on: January 14, 2017, 09:37:48 PM »
Junk shopping today.   Looking at some over restored tools, cast wrenches and monkey wrenches, then spied this.   Ratchet, half inch female hole, one directional, just one step up from home made.   The ratchet wheel close to 3 inches in diameter, whole ratchet, pawl and spring exposed.  Steel strap riveted around the cast head the moving parts rest in.   The strap is 5/16 thick by 5/8 wide, form the frame for the handle, which is a dark reddish wood.   Wood at least 8 inches long by 2.5 in. wide, real thick for a real handful.   First glance it looks pre WWI to me.  Was too far to get back to the car to grab the camera so no pic.  No name, symbols or numbers.  Had a manufactured look, but was primitive and crude, although it did work fairly well.  Anybody see anything like it?
