PAR-X tool box. Flea market find.
« on: December 29, 2016, 08:57:04 PM »
A few weeks back we went to our local flea market. Did not find many tools. As we were leaving a couple of people were haggling over the price of a PAR-X top box. The seller had the price was so low, I was sure the interested party was going to buy it. We walked by a few minutes later and the seller was loading it to his van. I asked if it was still for sale. He said it was and that he wanted $15.00 for it. I gave him the money and had my granddaughter help me carry it to my car. It is 26 inches wide, 12 inches deep and 14-1/2 inches tall. kinda a orange / red color.

Not a box you see very often but it makes a nice little bench top box and for what you payed I think I'd have brought it home too.

Sometimes i just get lucky. I find stuff all the time because i have lots of time, just not enough cash. I have gotten lots of good free and paid for stuff off of Craig's list. Watching tool related videos on You tube has been a big help to I.D. tools like machine tools.

And, as a bonus, you got to demonstrate to your granddaughter what both quality products and a screaming deal look like/put her feet on the righteous path.

I would call it an amazing buy.  Plus you had a helper carry it out.  Never seen a ParX box, and never a box of that type for the money.   Am seeing Craftsman carry boxes  with or without a socket tray for the 10 to 20 dollar range.

Around here the average Craftsman top box goes for around $50.00 I would like to find some more Kennedy machinists boxes. I have one Kennedy top box that is red. My favorite is a Proto top box my wife's mother bought me 35 years ago. I have two Plomb boxes, but they are in need of work to make them useable.

What a deal!  I'm in the market for a top box for my bottom cabinet at work - which makes me doubly envious!

I just checked and i found i have 6 Par-X wrenches and 2 sockets also. In 40 years of buying selling and collecting tools, this is the only Par-X stuff i have came up with. I did see a 3/4 inch drive set in a pawn shop years ago that was in a cardboard box marked Par-X. I have more tools i have bought this year that i have stored in sealed plastic buckets i need to go through. This summer i want to get all my best Proto stuff in the Proto tool box. Right now a lot of my Proto tools are in my Kennedy top box.
