Blackhawk Plier-Wrench
« on: November 20, 2016, 08:53:40 AM »
Came home yesterday with a pair of Blackhawk locking pliers of this style--but with a different spelling:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-9-Whale-Tool-Co-Pli-Rench-Vise-Grip-Style-Locking-Plier-Tool-Circa-1940-/272452379688?hash=item3f6f6d6428:g:vHsAAOSwNRdYBN~f

Mine show a pat # of 2689057.
Seems that someone here is interested in them.
Are they collectable?
The ORIGINAL Northwoods.

I have a newer style pair of locking pliers that are marked BLACKHAWK and they are re-badged Vise grips. I also have a pair of PROTO re-badged Vise Grips and i may even have a pair of P&C re-badged Vise Grips. Seems Mr.Peterson was more than happy to sell his tools to other company's. I have lots of Vise Grips knockoffs also.

Hmmm, I used to buy every old "vice grip" like pliers for a $1 or less cause I had a place who sold replacement springs for a quarter. I use them for welding clamps. Never looks at the brand, spring all seemed to be similar.

I tend to buy every cheap pair of them i can find if they are in good condition. All mine except two pairs are Peterson mfg. I only bought the two Irwin pairs because they were models i did not have. I have a small needle nose pair i picked up off the highway. Pretty beat up, but still work. I have a pair marked VISE-GRIP jr. on their original box with paper work and a price of $2.35  Model is 5WR. 5 inch model with a wire cutter. They belonged to my wife's Uncle who owned Union Ave Glass in Portland Oregon.
