Stephens Vise Co. jewelers vise
« on: October 09, 2016, 03:37:40 PM »
The Stephens Vise Co. made several different sizes and models of this vise. From the babies like this one, with 1 3/4 in. jaws(some also had 2 in. jaws) to the largest that weighed in at 160-175 pounds and had 6 1/2 in. wide jaws. The swivel base models being the heavier.

The jewelers vise, of which this is an example, were available with and without an anvil, in a swivel base version, and in an extended swivel base like this one. In addition, for an extra $2.00 you could have the whole works nickel plated. An expensive option when you consider that the regular cast version was still $5.25...a large sum back in 1904. To put it in perspective, that would be $135 and $187 respectively. This probably explains why you don't see many of the nickel plated ones today.
