Slow season but neat Plomb find
« on: September 04, 2016, 05:36:30 PM »
I haven't been finding too many neat tools this summer, but last nights auction coughed up this one.

I'm guessing it's for a 1/2 drive socket set?

What are the clips on the top for?

anyone have more info?

Thanks

They are meant for a speeder wrench. Those clips are flattened out, both ends should be bent up to grip the speeder.

Looks like the speeder fills the space on the bottom front.

I can't find that box in any Plomb catalog.  However, I do see boxes with the indent for sockets where it looks like the speeder should be (in the tray) but the speeder is attached to the lid.

I've been told that the round "O" in the lid ID dates it to pre-1940.  I scored an immaculate 9985 small chest some time ago, but the fool PO painted it flat black....sigh.  Afte the box got to  $25 at the auction it was just me and one other guy and he bailed at $38.50.  It'snever had a tool in it I don't believe.  Nice find there BTW......
