Donnelly Open House Auction

I had an absentee bid in on lot 601 at the Donnelly Auction this past weekend. The lot was maybe 10 pieces of different items. The one thing I was interested in was the Boot Jack, wrench & hammer combination tool. Martin had a high estimate of $150 on the lot. I bid according to what I valued the Boot Jack and was surprised when I got my email yesterday that I didn't win the auction and the fact that the winning bid was $700. A lot of tools sold at that auction. I wonder if Bird got another truck load this year.

I got a few things at the auction, but I think I did better with the vendors in the field.  Probably 30 or so set up there.

My impression was that items were going high...at least they sold for more than I wanted to pay.

Probably 20% or more sold above the high estimate. Unfortunately Les your item was one of them.

At least the weather cooperated. No rain and a nice breeze.

And what makes you think bird had any part in that auction????? I've really screwed myself this time..... Way worse then last year!!!! I spent every dime I own.... And I mean ALL of it. In fact, I think I'm going to have to ask dear old dad if he'll loan me money to rent a u haul to go pick up the tools... I don't think Martin will be sending them to me in the mail. My friend who took me to get them last year said he'd take me again, but not with his truck and trailer.... He had to replace several parts on the trailer last time. I'm truly questioning my sanity at this point.... I mean that honestly. I'm not sure what I was thinking. I may have really screwed up... I truly didn't mean to go "all in" with my savings on this. Yeah, I know, I should have thought this through better. But, I guess I didn't. I don't think I have the lot of tools you were asking about. But, I'm not sure what all I've bought at this point. I'm excited and truly terrified right now. Thank god it's summer and I can live off of my garden right now. I know I bought three lots of wrenches, but am not sure what they are right now.

(Near the center) I was high bidder, but as expected the price was driven up because of all the other wrenches included in the lot. <grumble grumble> Good wrenches I suppose, but none of them fit my collection. And now I get to pay extra shipping costs to get the extra weight shipped to me. <grumble grumble grumble>

Hopefully I'll be able to sell off the wrenches and recoup some of my costs.

Plyerman, think positive, you won the lot with what you were willing to pay, you will have the lid lifter you wanted.  who knows,
you may sell off the remaining tools for a profit.

 I can not say that I had never bid more than what I had planned.

 I have seen folks so busy talking during the auction, that they bid on the wrong lot,  that can be a costly mistake.   

 would you rather be in the situation that Bird got into ?  which I hope turns out OK.

Thanks for posting the pot lifter information.  I picked one up somewhere earlier this year.  I figured it was a fairly good patented item, but I could not locate the patent information.

I did the July Donnelly auction this year because of all the flood cleanup work I had to do around here, and my wife was giving me a hard time about taking trips after it.   I bid absentee for the Thursday and Friday auctions, got up there Friday and picked up my won lots, and then stayed for the Saturday auction in person.  It worked out pretty well.  I took a truck and trailer load home.  A little less than normal, but I do not need as much inventory this year.   This year was my 10th time going up there for the summer auction.

Overall, the prices were higher this year.  It seems like it is trending that way with more and more people going.  The bidding on some of the larger lots was ridiculously high.  I am trying to stay away from those more and more anyway because the flea market side of sales is very down in my area.
