Hi guys, I hope that everyone had a good fourth of july. My friend kelly (who took me on the infamous tool trip) just bought a house. ... needs A LOT of work. I spent the last five days helping to gut it.... long way to go! Just wanted to check in and say hello.

Hi Bird, gutting is sometimes a needed task, but can be real dirty.

 ya have to be careful ripping down bathroom walls, they used to have slots in the medicine cabinets to drop
 your old razor blades down between the studs.

 did you find any small skeletons ?

I'm on the lookout for treasures.... found a mouse scurrying away and a not so friendly snake I could have lived without seeing.... scared the crap out of me!!!!!!! But, the good news that I forgot to mention is it has a three car shop with it :)!!!!! It was an estate sale, so they just left stuff in there ... found  a 3/4 drive huge Walden socket wrench.... Walden is one of the brands I actually mean to collect rather then collections by default :) !!! Kelly owes me a fair amount of money... so I'm calling dibs on anything out of the shop.... he doesn't much like things that don't plug in, anyhow.i found an interesting  caliper in a leather pouch... pretty cool looking , no makers mark, I'll have to take some pictures for help from my help a bird out friends :)

I found it! The whole thing seems to pieced together with random boards... looks like it's built out of old barn wood . ... notice there's no insulation anywhere!!  Lot's of work, but we'll get it done!

Back in the late 19th / early 20th Century & probably earlier, sheeting boards for walls & roofs were sawmill run random width.  The widest I've found in old houses I've remodeled or torn down was 26 inches.  My current house has portions that date back to roughly 1880 or slightly earlier, and the random width sheeting boards on the roof range from 6 inches to 18 inches, nailed down with "square" cut nails.  During a mid-1990s re-shingle I had to strip the roof down to the old sheeting & cover them with exterior grade plywood to make a "current code compliant" base for 3-tab shingles.
