 just wait until you spot a certain wrench and that urge kicks in.

 Making some progress on cataloguing my wrenchs on spread sheets. Have cataloged :implement wrenchs; alligator wrenchs;Mossberg wrenchs;Non-sparking wrenchs;ratchets;4 inch adjustables;IHC wrenchs. Guess next job will be mechanics wrenchs but am tempted to get rid of them as I seem to be collecting too many kinds of wrenchs. Am reminded that my late(thats deceased she was always early) wife said to me at a MVWC auction "you can't buy them all". Looking at my basement I may be only half done. C'est le vie or some other old saying.

That's quite a project you got going there.  I feel your pain.  But it looks like you're making serious progress.  And your peg boards look awesome!

I have a simple inventory set up for my tools... really just a spread sheet.  I found a long time ago that it is much easier to update and maintain the spreadsheet if I make the entries as I buy the tools.  It only takes about 20-30 minutes per week.  It's become a simple weekly task I do and I don't mind it because it's short, sweet, and part of my weekly routine.

Maybe frequent updates could work for you too.

 Have found that sorting and cataloging wrenchs takes up more room than just hanging them as close together as possible. Ran out of wall space so built me a wrench rack to hang some of them. Its 8feet long by 4 feet by 2 feet. Figure that extra 80 square feet of hang space will get me a little farther down the road . No where near done but it fills the cold winter days with activity.

I like that idea. I ended up with upside down V boards down the center of the room. I like your idea better.

Jim, I was studying your new 8' x 4' x 2' rack,  that is a good way of doing it,  it got me thinking about the same idea,
but making it 8' x 4' x4'  with a swinging door on one end and pegboard inside & outside.

could also put 3" castors with step locks on the legs ???

you have me thinking now.

 Turnnut; took your advise and added casters. Also here is an unsolisited endorsement of McMaster Carr. Ordered 200 peg board hooks on Tues and they were on my stoop when I got up Thurs(that wasn't ar the crack of dawn)
