Bonney stuff
« on: October 02, 2011, 07:53:59 AM »
I got these in the last couple of weeks and thought I'd share. Both are from eBay. The bushing driver set is BU40B and the earliest catalog I have that shows it is 60S dated 1959. It is also in the #67 catalog, 1967. Does anyone have an idea of the date on the sign? Nothing on the back and its on brass.

Wow, NICE! And I absolutely LOVE that sign. No idea of the vintage, but if you ever want to sell or trade it, keep me in mind.

It is great to find an older set that is comlete.  To pull it off the shelf thinking, its still heavy, and popping the lid open to find all is still there, thats a great feeling.  Not a Bonney expert, but before 1930 most boxes were of wood, and the color, finish on the tool handles, would guess it was made between 1935, and 1955.  I bet one of the Bonney followers can pinpoint that logo.  Good find.

Hard to say on the sign. The Shield logo was trademarked, but there are 2 types, and trade mark usage can occur before registration. The shield was marked in 1913 or 1915. The Oval that replaced it was marked in 1944....However, bonney went back to the shield again....

The only way I can think to narrow it down more is to see (in catalogs) what time period they were using the 'only the best' moniker also....
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.
