talking tool chest
« on: September 04, 2015, 08:25:32 PM »
That subject caught your attention, didn't it? No, my tool chest isn't talking to me...... YET. So, many of you saw the pics I have of that old tool chest that I bought. I almost sold it today. But, then I spent a moment to think about something besides how broke I am and decided to keep it. I don't know the age of it. I thought, "if the tool chest could only talk.... oh the places it must have been and things its seen." I haven't found a way to make it talk. So, I'm going to plan b. I'll let you know if plan A ever works and someone should probably check me into a mental ward at that time.
So, it doesn't have a voice. But, what it does have is the tools that are in it. There are a couple problems with that. Who knows when persons dumped tools into this thing, or how many generations and users it has gone through. But, what I do have is a lot of drill bits.. many different styles and makers, a few wrenches, an entire set of molding planes, and some other tools. SO, if anyone is still reading this, I need everyone's help! I don't know that much about all these tools..... or much at all, for that matter! I'm hoping with all the various styles, finishes, makers, ect. that I can get a better feel for this tool box. I know, maybe I have too much time on my hands. Or maybe I choose to have time and take time for things that matter. This tool box matters. Why? Because I said so!
This guy (I'm assuming) was a serious handy man. He made a plumb bob out of a rock! Anyhow, some things are clearly newer then others. I'm afraid I took some of the wrenches out of it when I first got it.... now I'm not sure which ones. But, there's still plenty to work with.
After all, who doesn't love a mystery, right?! I'm going to start taking pictures of the stuff in it tomorrow. I'll expect responses.... from all of you.
cheers

Dang, Jenny-Bird, you make me wish I could stop by your place and shoot the breeze with you while we looked at the tools.  I suspect the drive is a tad bit far from California, though.

Bird, are ya gonna post photos?  I am sure everyone would like to see the box and contents and maybe somebody here can shed some light into its dark past.

Every time I read one of Birds posts I feel the EXACT same way!  And, I think I may live a bit closer.

Thanks a lot Bird!

I spent 2 hours today prototyping a voice synthesizer, speaker and alarm switches onto a box.

Sales may be brisk.

Well said, I think a lot us appreciate/acknowledge the previous owners. I found my post below from a couple of years ago.

While cleaning them I noticed the mix I picked up at an actual estate sales .
When I had a chance to look over the mix the old gent owned, it was very interesting.
Garage looked like he was a user, not a polisher.  I hope the guy was happy some one got them that will appreciate them.

I'll tell you what I tell my mom. "Mom, in 38 years have I ever done anything when I said I would?!!" :) that's why ebay has been good for me...I actually have to ship things r I got away. I guess something has to keep me in check...as sorry as that may be. I starting cleaning up all the different styles of drill bits yesterday. I'm also very curious about the plumb bob...whether it is homemade or not. I'm working on it! Cheers
