Lakeside Breast Drill
« on: August 30, 2015, 03:02:24 PM »
Was looking at 2 drills this morning and the vendor said I could have one for $2.
I said are you serious and he said yes but could only take one of them.
So I picked this Lakeside and it is perfectly smooth. Not bad for a quick 10 minute stop this morning.

Nice.  Thrust bearing, the side handle (often missing), and that quick-release speed change.  Good find.  From here, that looks like a three-jaw chuck.  Is that right?

Yes it is, and I can shift gears in 2 seconds flat. This thing is as smooth as can be.

I recently saw a quick release speed change, with the side handle, and also the spirit level still mounted on it.  It was too dirty to find a name, but perfectly workable.  It's at a nearby antique store.  The owner is going to clean it (detergent and/or mineral spirits only) so we can see if there's a makers name on it anywhere.  I have a hunch it's a Millers Falls.

Can only buy one?   Sounds like an old hardware store owner from my home town that would never sell you the last item on the shelf.  "What if someone else wants to buy one"

Really!  That vendor is one strange dude.
1.  The price is ridiculously low.
2.  He gives you your choice--knowing that you would choose the better item.
3.  Won't give you a similar deal on the lesser item.
As Rhoda the robot--Google it--said, "That does not compute."
