Looks like a homemade scuffle hoe made from mounting a cultivator shoe onto a hoe handle.

You scuffle the hoe just under the soil surface to cut off weeds.  With a regular hoe you chop the soil but a scuffle hoe does not move the soil.  The cultivator shoe would need to be sharpened.

Thanks Rusty, I just grew up at the tail end of the horse/mule era using all those tools.

Shape is close but the attachment is for pushing while the warren hoe is for digging.  The hoe in the attachment called a scuffle hoe is a modern version called in the trade a stirrup or wiggle hoe because of the shape of the bottom also the hoe bottom is loose and moves when it is used.

Oh.  I call 'em Hula hoes.  The first ones I saw marketed were called that.

Is the notch sharpened inside?  I'll bet it is.  It's, like the shuffle hoe, for cutting things off below the surface of the soil, following the same principle as the slater's ripper (reaches under the slate, hooks onto the nail, and is driven backwards to cut).

Ponder...would you like to be stuck to a really ticked off whale with something only the length of a broomstick? LOL

(I will admit it has a vague resemblence to certain blubber knife design tho...)

I didn't think about whaling but then we don't see that many whales up here in North Alabama on the Tennessee River. LOL
