Plane totes are kind of hard to get. At least, they are hard to get cheap.  Often a good tote brings the same price as a good plane, minus the tote.
But you can repair the old one and no one can tell, if you do a good job.

Cracks can be stoutly glued and missing wood can be fabricated to match.

New reproduction totes are available but often sell in the 40 dollar range.

What, broken tip???
Zay -alllll- have ze broken tiiiiipsssss!

Follow the link to the second article.  I have repaired many broken tips.
Quicker and cheaper than any other course of action.
You could have a primo tote tomorrow, if you start right now!!

Even if you don't have a scrap of rosewood, surely you can scrounge a scrap of something, just for the learning.
Next time you'll have already scrounged a little fine wood for a stash, and you'll have it down!
