More planes and handtools than just about anywhere
« on: April 11, 2015, 09:58:13 AM »
Some of the URLs In my last post, about Marsh/Stanley/Rocford planes came from this site:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/-snapshot-/

Simply bewildering collection of planes and other tools, with many comparisons of, say, planes made by Stanley for another company and the same plane made by Sargent.  There are three pages of thumbnail images, with tools on all three pages.  You gotta see this!

The quality of those photographs are superb. Any idea who they belong to?
My friends call me Bob. My wife calls me a lot worse.

I didn't know there were that many different no. 2 planes out there.  Some really rare stuff.  As Bob said, the layout and photography are outstanding.  This guy is a master at photoshop also.

Branson, thanks for posting!!

Some guy named Bill, probably from Duluth.

You know - or, if you don't, you can probably imagine - January and February in Duluth.  Snow up to an elephant's keister, entire children stuck to the flagpoles at the school, coffee and baristas freezing solid when exposed to the outside air.  You'd go down in the basement and get active with photos and interweb searching, too.

An interesting passion, No. 2 size planes.  Lots of names, and also a lot of badge engineering - Stanley or other major makers with someone else's named stamped on them.

Some nice local scenery and history-ish photos, too.  Not sure who the cute Asian-descent woman is - wife?  Girlfriend?  Just plain friend?

It's confirmed.  Mine is a Marsh 4 1/2.  You can see the same marking on an identified Marsh at:

https://webmail.sonic.net/?_task=mail&_framed=1&_action=get&_mbox=INBOX&_uid=23724&_part=5&_frame=1

This one, too, has a Stanley blade:

https://webmail.sonic.net/?_task=mail&_framed=1&_action=get&_mbox=INBOX&_uid=23724&_part=6&_frame=1

Mystery solved, except these questions:
Did Stanley make the planes for Rockford and Marsh?
What was the relationship between Stanley, Marsh, and Rockford?
