Reverse this motor
« on: March 23, 2015, 04:58:27 AM »
Is it possible to tell me if its possible judging from this pict.?

I need to make a fan run opposite direction and changing the leads would possibly be the easiest way to make this happen.

Always looking for what interests me, anything early Dodge Brothers/Graham Brothers trucks ( pre 1932 or so ) and slant six / Super six parts.

Reversible motors will usually say that on the nameplate (some, but not all, non-reversible motors will state the direction in which they turn).  If your motor has a wiring diagram plate, that will also give you a clue.

On an AC motor, reversing the leads on the terminals won't, all by itself, reverse motor direction, because the electricity's not directional - alternating current reverses direction 60 times a second (American standard; different in some other countries).  You reverse an AC motor by changing how several different wires are tied together, and then tied to the incoming power.  The lack of wires to rearrange, on the picture you've shown, inclines me to think this may be a non-reversible motor, unless there's a different place to do that.

IF you're willing to disassemble the motor and identify the windings there is a 90% chance it can be reversed.

If the total effort you're willing to expend is posting on the InTurdnet seeking direction from experts, that motor will never reverse.
Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance!

Not my total effort, my exhausted effort will be to conclude this topic by saying thanks guys, one way motor it is!
