Old clunker toolbox I dragged home....

Look at this old clunker of a tool box I dragged home today. Hoping I can straighten it a little and use it for some of my more specialized tools. Even still has the front panel to lock the drawers away from sticky fingers!!

I can't find any manufacturer markings on it, other than the original owners self-applied brass tag.

I paid $25 for it, so hoping I didn't get burned too bad, John K.

I have to do some tinkering, but I think one of those keys will work.

The guy wouldn't let me have all the contents for that price....approximately 20 taps, a Bog manufacturing piston ring groove cleaner, several large drill bits, some huge sockets, a Blackhawk t-bar missing the drive slider, vacuum gauge in box, etc.

I plan on storing all my Coleman lantern cleaning and rehab tools in it, along with extra parts.

I finally found some good, hard evidence as to the manufacturer of this box, fellas!!

S&K made it. Found one just like it on etsy for $228 (pics below)
I looked close and found remnants of the same logo sticker on the inside lid of mine!! HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention....one of the keys inside fit the lock. I did a little straightening of the lid, all parts mate up correctly and it locks like it should. The little bar even moves right to lock in the front panel!!!

Nice toolbox.  I almost never find them with the front panel, at least not for less than $100.

SK is my favorite since I was a teenager.

For $25, it was a steal!

Well, I got the box as cleaned up as it will get for now. I had to scrape the old, greasy felt out of a couple of the drawers, but it came out easy enough after a wash in hot, soapy water.

Last night, I lined all the drawers and top tray with the thin black drawer liner from harbor freight. This evening I hope to start putting all my tools in it. It fits nicely on my 6' hemlock workbench from Home Depot, which resides in the extra bedroom(slowly becoming mancave) of my home!!

I'll post up some pics later this evening. Here's a pic of it, ready to go back to work!

In your first picture the box looked like it was brown. That's why i thought it was a Kennedy box.
Your latest picture shows it to be SK green all cleaned up. Nice.

I believe kennedy made it for S&K. I have one marked Craftsman and Sears does not make anything. I have seen many other boxes with several different names marked on them. The only real difference i have noticed is the design of the drawer pulls, but that could be a time frame thing.Why would a tool company spend a truck load of money to buy the rights and tooling to make the boxes, when kennedy would be more than happy to crank out a lot of boxes with somebody elses name  and paint color on them. It's done all the time. My Craftsman box is silver, but all the parts will fit any of my Kennedy boxes. I Have several pairs of Vise grip style pliers marked Proto and Blackhawk, but in my heart i know Vise grip made them.

And green was not their only color.

I have S-K in blue boxes, and with yellow handles on 1/4" drivers.

I am convinced some S-K pliers were made by Diamond. Lectrolite supposedly made their early wrenches, before they became one, at least.

I know that they were known for their screw machined products, and they made those.

A lot of tool companies subbed out production to others. That is a big part of the American industrial revolution. Ford might be famous for his assembly line, but it was just an extension of what was happening all around him. Those early cars, just like those produced today, sourced parts from all over.

I think the important thing for my collecting isn't manufacturer, but brand. I know others who collect all the brands of  certain manufacturers product, though.
