Couple of oldies

Picked these up at an auction a while back.  The first of two estate sales of a guy who by all accounts loved Model T's and had a very keen eye for cool stuff.

I suspect the first is a battery carrier, for a small battery.

it looks like you could carry a battery, are the clamps offset ?

any name on it ?   it's interesting. 

 I would think that the frame would get mighty warm.

 if your hand slipped off of the wood handle,  ouch !

Never thought about that.   Dang so much for that theory. 

Clamps are independent.  Basically shovel on the bolt thru the handle.

The carrier is for a 6 volt attery and the load tester was when the cells had external connecting straps. I had a pair of pliers with hinged loops on the ends of the handles for a battery carrier.  That would sure be a hot one to use unless the battery was totally dead.

That's what I was thinking. Being all metal, and it looks like the clamps grab the posts, the battery should be pretty much dead or you're going to get a spark.

Is there continuity thru the wood handle, I'll bet not!... The design most likely is two separate studs rather than what appears to be a thru bolt or rivet.

Wooden handle spins freely on the rod that goes through the middle.  I'll try to get better pics this evening.

Looks like bolt is not original.

I believe that the bolt went straight thru the handle, otherwise, you would have too much
flex on the two pieces.  the wood handle would have been safe if you did not slip your
grip sideways and touch the metal.

more than likely from the 20's way before "OSHA" became our watch dog.
