Studpop Magnetic Studfinder Review
« on: October 15, 2014, 07:03:19 PM »
Proudly made in the USA, this is a pretty handy gadget for the junk drawer or carpentry belt. It has a super strong magnet that easily finds metal through my sheetrock walls.

Your choice of colors too!

I picked up a dozen 1/4 rare earth magnets dirt cheap,  they work for me.

I just put nails in the wall until something happens.

"The picture is going right here....I mean, right over here...no really, I didn't like that spot..it's going here....really, I wanted it up there....Wadda ya mean it's hard to see on the ceiling?

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

I think Rusty needs toggle bolts altho  I have been known to use his system. Metal lathe that was sometimes used  confuses things.

This little guy would save you a few holes in the wall then!

I had a somewhat different magnet based stud finder.  It frustrated me quite a bit.  I got *really* frustrated when I started hanging wall art as part of my job.   Then I found an electronic stud finder at Home Depot.  For about $10 all my problems went away.  It will light up the second it comes to the edge of a 2X4, so you can identify both edges of a single stud.

My only gripe with them is batteries and the corrosion that comes with 'em.
Now if you use it everyday for work, that's a different story.

I've had mine for around 15 years.  I don't use it every day.  Sometimes go months without using it.  So far, the batteries work fine and haven't needed replacement, and there have been no corrosion problems at all.

I'm not sure where you got those batteries, but more power to you.

I received a studpop today and I like the way it works.

I also have a battery operated studfinder, but always take the battery out when not in use.

I like how it definitively pops.

I am in the 7% group they mention in the packaging who can't use studfinders.

Dang things go nuts around me.
