Very Strange Piece Of Steel
« on: August 25, 2011, 09:01:29 PM »
This was another part of the Estate Sale Buy today posted on Gen. Discussion, but I have no idea what it's designed to do.  Looks almost like a universal mounting of some sort.  Apparently the owner did Stained Glass work, if that's any kind of hint....The Magic Marker is there for size reference

Looks like it would clamp to a table then hold a specific tool. What tool I do not know. I seriously doubt that is a tool itself.

I see multiple uses for it in the shop or I wouldn't have paid $3 for it.  Hopin' at least I can adapt it to make a temporary top tube clamp holder for my bike repairs using the round hole and clamping the backside to the workbench.  Still have no idea what the weird shaped hole is for...

Clamping jig or stop for a larger piece of equipment.

Maybe the weird-shaped hole is for spitting out Chevrolet logos.....

I see alot of uses for that also in the shop and I have been attracted to that finish as long as I can remember
Always looking for what interests me, anything early Dodge Brothers/Graham Brothers trucks ( pre 1932 or so ) and slant six / Super six parts.

I know this is an old topic, but all the players are current.

It is a holder for various jewelers mandrels.  Think of a typical ring mandrel, the big end goes into the hole. The "weird shape hole" holds a bracelet mandrel usually.

WOW, you really research the oldies there man!!.  Thanks for the info.  I guess I need to digit out of fthe wood crate and check it out again.  As far as the bike frame idea goes, well, I found a Park portable top tube clamp and stand for $30 at a friend's house a year ago and that's a cheap solve to the bike repairs now.
